2011, in review

broadist:

I started off 2011 like any normal girl in Brooklyn: hangover brunch, front-desk shift at the concert venue, followed by a month-long bout of pneumonia. So I spent most of January in New Jersey, thankful that my insurance had just re-kicked in. Many friends would console me, “isn’t that how that girl from Broadcast died? Shit.” I think we had a housewarming party while I was still on antibiotics.

February rolled in and I was doing better. I came back to Brooklyn, slowly back to work at the venue, and back to work at the literary agency. I interviewed for some jobs. I wrote a lot about how much I hated valentine’s day, and then I started dating again. Some people probably had birthdays. I went to many Brokelyn meetings and ate many bagels. I shopped at a lot of thrift stores. I tried on a lot of lipstick.

more!

In March, I visited Muhlenberg College for Media & Comm alumni week. I scoped my old haunts and spoke for classes about how to be successful and do what you want post-graduation. It was really fun and weird advising people to work in the service industry and write for free with their expensive liberal arts degrees. I hope to do it again this year.

In April and may, I wrote a bunch. I wrote about retail jobs. I also wrote about Telling Your Parents You Got a Tattoo - hilarious to most, but secretly a huge leap for me in self love and body positivity. I advised in the article to show a photo where you looked pretty and happy and your tattoo is only slightly revealed, so I showed my mom this picture:

It’s safe to say that May was the month that Broadist was conceived. I tweeted and then I met Roxy. I got a tax return and planned my trip to SF/Seattle at the end of May. We started the blog upon my return.

Since the blog started in June, loyal readers can probably infer a lot. But for those who want a full recap, there’s more after the cut.
